Client Success Story
Client Overview
A global leader in engineering and technology, our client operates across a wide range of industries, including power generation, automotive, aerospace & defense, marine logistics, consumer products, and healthcare solutions. Their multinational footprint creates significant complexity in managing MRO data, particularly given the diversity of suppliers, manufacturers, and parts categories involved.
Project Scope
The client needed three data management workstreams handled at the same time, each with its monthly volume, accuracy benchmark, and output format.
The client needed us to extract and structure critical data attributes, including Manufacturer Part Numbers (MPNs), supplier names, and manufacturer names from large volumes of unstructured raw data. The team was tasked with processing approximately 400K records every month while applying consistent formatting and data standards across all entries.
Our team was responsible for conducting thorough online research to source and verify product-level details, including Article Number, Manufacturer Name, Product Name, Type Code, product descriptions, URLs, E-CLASS IDs, and expiration or discontinuation status.
Using manufacturer and supplier websites as primary sources, we enriched the client's unstructured input data, which typically consisted of MPNs and brief descriptions. Team4eCom was tasked with processing over 100K product records per month.
A third component involved identifying, verifying, and documenting detailed profiles for suppliers and manufacturers. This included gathering legal names, physical addresses, supplier and OEM status, company logos, and its holding company's details. The client required complete and accurate supplier details—8,000 records targeted for completion within a month.
Key Challenges
The client operated in a highly data-centric MRO environment, where the volume of information, its unstructured format, and multilingual inputs created major processing challenges. Our team worked within tight timelines, strict accuracy requirements, and widespread data inconsistencies, with limited external validation support.
The client delivered unstructured and incomplete raw data at a rate of ~400,000 records every month. The primary challenge within this data was accurately identifying and standardizing manufacturer names. Many entries did not have key indicators to distinguish brand names from generic descriptors.
The only cross-referencing point available was a manufacturer’s list, which was neither comprehensive nor definitive. Given the volume and timelines involved, there was no capacity to conduct independent external validation of each entry.
The client mandated a minimum accuracy threshold of 98% across all deliverables, with clear accountability for any shortfall. Every decision made during the data cleansing and research process, including brand name assignments, data addition, and record structuring, had to be consistent and well grounded.
The volume of records involved meant that even a small error rate would translate into thousands of incorrect entries, making precision at scale a critical part of day-to-day execution.
A portion of the client's input data arrived in German, requiring accurate translation before any data processing could begin. Working with technical MRO terminology across multiple languages added a layer of complexity not present in standard data enrichment workflows.
Our team used translation tools and validated the translated content to ensure that translated content accurately reflected the original intent before being populated in the required fields.
Solution Delivered
To address the complex data requirements, we built a team of 25 MRO data specialists, selected for their domain expertise and trained on the client's data standards, processing workflows, and quality protocols. The team operated across three parallel work streams:
With inconsistent and unformatted input data arriving in large batches, our team implemented a systematic data cleansing process to extract, structure, and standardize key fields:
Our parts research work stream was responsible for sourcing and verifying detailed product attributes for over 100,000 records each month using manufacturer websites, digital catalogs, and authoritative supplier sources.
Our team handled the research and validation of 8000 supplier and manufacturer records within a month as a one-time assignment. The output had to meet the high relevancy and accuracy standards expected in the MRO environment.
